He Humbled Me...Again!

Have you heard of Silly Bandz? Well...if you haven't they're these cute little rubberbands that are shaped like different things. They are super trendy right now. You wear them on your wrist. All kids love them including Brian's middle schoolers. Anyways....this weekend Caden asked for some at Toys and Co. So I agreed to buy them! He chose glow in the dark cars and trucks. The trend is to also trade them. I noticed some kids trading them in Cadens class last week so I warned him and told him that it was totally up to him. Today, he wore his 7 Silly Bandz to school. When I picked him up...he had ONE! I said to him, "Caden what happened to all of your silly bandz?" His response, "I gave them to my friends." Confused I let it go until we got in the car. When we got in the car I asked him why he didn't trade. (Honestly....I was irritated that I just spent $5 on 12 rubberbands and he gave away 6 of them.) He responded simply that some of his friends didn't have them and he wanted to give them to them. I asked him why he didn't trade with the ones that did have some bandz. Again, he responds with because I didn't need one back.

He then put his thumb in his mouth a fell right asleep. I thought about our exchange the whole way home (in the quiet car!!!!!). My irritation has turned to pride. My sweet boy gave to those that didn't have as well as those who did have what he had. He expected NOTHING in return! How often do I give my time, talents and possessions and expect something in return?

Now, I'm off to wake that sweet boy up so he'll sleep tonight! I hope you can learn from his selflessness today as much I did!

2 Corinthians 9:7
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
